Startorus Fusion Demonstrates Innovative Technology Routes and Achievements

Tan Yi, chief scientist of Startorus Fusion, delivered a report entitled “An Innovative Fusion Energy Route Based on Spherical Tokamak and Its Commercialization Practice”. Aiming at the problems of huge volume, high cost and long construction period faced by the traditional Tokamak apparatus in the process of commercialization, Tan Yi introduced in detail the repeated reconnection technology scheme proposed by Startorus Fusion: using a spherical Tokamak design to improve the utilization rate of magnetic field and realize the miniaturization of the apparatus; using high temperature superconducting technology to enhance the magnetic field strength and further enhance the fusion power; and using the magnetic reconnection heating technology and repetitive pulse operation mode to simplify the apparatus. These innovations not only greatly simplify the peripheral system, reduce the cost of operation and maintenance, but also expand the application scenarios and significantly improve the commercial feasibility of fusion energy.

Tan Yi also shared the breakthrough progress in the technology research and development and commercialization process of Startorus Fusion: it took only 279 days to complete the construction of fusion apparatus and light up the first plasma; the feasibility of repeated reconnection scheme was verified within 11 months; the ability of plasma control is further enhanced with the plasma current reaching 480 kA and the combination with the self-developed AI algorithm; and it will also start the construction of the world’s first native negative triangle spherical Tokamak NTST.

At present, Startorus Fusion has completed the independent research and development of 100 kA-level energy storage power supply, high temperature superconducting magnet and other core equipment, and has built a complete technology chain. In promoting the commercial application of fusion energy, the company has achieved tens of millions of sales of fusion derivatives, and plans to build a demonstration power station around 2030 to accelerate the commercialization process of fusion energy.

Industry-University-Research Collaboration Promotes the Development of Fusion Energy

This seminar has set up an efficient communication platform and promoted technology sharing and resource integration. Experts at the meeting agreed that fusion energy is an important direction of clean energy in the future, and it is necessary to strengthen cross-domain cooperation, break through key technical bottlenecks, and accelerate commercialization.

As one of the domestic commercial fusion enterprises, Startorus Fusion will continue to cultivate spherical Tokamak, promote fusion energy research and development and industrial application, and help China occupy a leading position in the global fusion energy competition.
